Why am I alone in this?

When will I be okay?

By Ena Published 7 days ago 1 min read

That dark, scaled parasite

Twisting, writhing. Leeching resolve and time, the latter lost for good.

"Everything will go wrong, just think of it!", that snake whispers into your ear

A spark, a simple thought, ignites the beast's fire which burns unending

The burn starts as seconds, turning to minutes, then hours and more

Time ticks on as your mind strains, the world passing it by

"I'm keeping you safe" it says and you believe it. It's tongue is silver and persuasive

But then you stop, look around you and really see all you are missing, this is not living this is existing, if even that

You close your eyes and relax, waters of logic and hope flow to soothe the inferno

You exhale a breath of relief, you saved yourself again

but the sly beast will return to whisper its burning lies again one day, you know this to be true.

All you can do is prepare and remember this, each victory over it makes you stronger.

Why am I alone in this mind? When will I be okay?

No one understands what it's like.

When the air leaves your lungs.

When no one is choking you but you feel strangulated.

No one understands the feeling in your chest.

Like a hundred pound rock just slammed you straight.

No one understands the feeling in your mind.

Like a hurricane with no thought aligned.

They're "normal" so they go about their busy lives.

Trying to chase whatever they don't have.

They don't have time to understand how you feel.

And when asked, they say, why should we listen? It is not our problem to deal with.

We have our own problems. It's not our fault she has panic attacks.

To them I have one question-

How, then, is it mine? Why am I the one stuck in this mind, alone? With no one empathising with my pain? Was I not a good enough friend, or companion? For them to take time out of their day?

Why am I alone in this mind? When will I be okay?
