When God Returned as a Woman
A poem dedicated to the courageous women in Iran
A poem dedicated to the courageous women in Iran:
Did you cook and eat with her
Did you shelter and protect her
Did you sing your favorite songs together
Did you learn from her
Did you encourage her
Did you watch her grow
Did she learn to dance
Did you laugh with her
Did you pray with her
Did you cry and celebrate with her
Did you ask her for help
Did you ask her all your questions
Did you watch and learn how to love
How beautiful!
Did the light in her hair expose your darkness
Was her light too bright
Where did you take her
Did you abandon her
Did you cage her
Did you deny her a voice
Did you beat her
Did you value your rules more than her life
All the secrets inside your heart are known; turn and seek mercy.
