lately, my world has been
a rollercoaster
spinning and spiraling everywhere
without you.
i've been slipping and sliding,
up and down, all around,
not knowing where i'm going,
without you.
lately, my feelings have been
a rollercoaster
purposefully giving me hope and
happiness, then dragging it away
without you.
i've been this way, that way
everywhere you can go
not knowing what i'm doing
without you.
lately, my mind has been
a rollercoaster,
thinking that you'll come back
and we'll be that promised "best friends forever..."
but no,
for i am
without you.
i've been wondering,
what is hope?
when it sends your thoughts whirling and your head swimming,
is it a good thing?
lately, my heart has been
fluttering with excitement when you say you're coming back
and crashing to the floor when you say you're not.
this is a rollercoaster,
this thing called hope,
of twists and turns and loop-de-loops
that i can never get off of.
when will this end?
is my hope real, or does it still bend?
waxing and waning,
to and fro,
ebb and flow,
that is my hope.
lately, all i can do is wonder
because my hope sends me soaring through the clouds
and plummeting to the seafloor
without you.
what is hope,
that it drags me like this?
what do i believe?
are you coming back
or staying away forever?
lately, i tried to forget you
and put you under the bed so i wouldn't have to think of you anymore.
but you cannot be forgotten.
so what is hope?

Death is a black hole. Think about it. A black hole is the corpse of a star, something once warm and bright, now come to the end of its life cycle. But some will argue that the cycle of life does not end with death. That death is merely another path we must walk once our bodies expire and our souls ascend. In that moment, when the fuel in the star’s chemical tank hits empty and the shiny matte coat explodes into supernova, the mass left behind – the corpse – becomes a black hole. We understand that, around such a vast cadaver, dimensions work a little differently in death to the way we’re used to in life. For example, light cannot escape the pull of a black hole when it hits the point of no return. That’s where it gets its colour. Space itself is contorted by a black hole. That’s where it gets its funny shape. Even time. Time slows right down the closer you get to it. The closer you get to a black hole. The closer you get to death.
