What Has Become of My Sister?
Poem I wrote from a poetry workshop I attended at the Oxford Poetry Library.
What has become of my sister?
If Santa Claus was real, he would be a machine
Bringing festive joy and salvation.
No one would go without!
Where did she get that blister?
If the toothy fairy was real, the dentists would be seen
At the job Centre with no question.
No one would have tooth decay!
Who is that hipster?
If the Easter Bunny was real, all baskets would be evergreen
And everyday would be a vacation.
No one would have to suffer!
Why do they worship that mister?
If their master is real, why is poverty so pristine?
All their promises of gold are fiction.
No one would be deceived!
Where are you soul sister?
If what we are taught is real, why is it shattered on a silver screen,
With conflicting advise on our obsession?
No one would have to rewrite history!
