We Three Kings

A Primatological Sonnet

Look at them with their little light boxes!

They are supposed to be here to peer at us

But the sight of our strong life flummoxes;

They lack discipline, wisdom, real focus

Ibid

Our servants bring us food and keep us fit

They gave us a nice, counterfeit jungle;

We’ve got a sense of the real point of it:

Admiring us keeps your masses humble

Ibid

They should be, for many are stout and quite dim

Most of them could not find food in a pinch

One, sick lion could make a quick feast grim

Of the lot; when they can’t run, it’s a sinch

Feast your eyes on our fur and tails and teeth

Ask yourselves: who’s above and who beneath?

    Spinning wheel of perspectives--who's above and who beneath? brought a smile! I stand no chance against a sick lion.

  • Hahahahhahahaha this made me laugh! Loved your poem!
