We were close as children,

And I have a million

Memories of us cousins at play.

As a younger member

It is hard to remember

But together is how we spent most summer days.

***

Catching a fish,

Or making a wish

On a star as we fell asleep on the beach,

We were pretty carefree,

Laughing and happy,

But we grew up and got harder to reach.

***

Weddings and Christmas,

Reunions, this was

The only time we hung out anymore.

Still with ease

We could shoot the breeze,

But something was wrong in your core.

***

Your pain was real deep,

And I guess last week,

It all became too much for you.

It is hard to believe

And although we’ll grieve,

We hope you found peace, and happiness too.

***

We will miss you a lot.

You are in our thoughts,

In our hearts, in our heads and all about.

I hope your spirit

Can get heavenly clearance

To come find us on earth and hang out.
