Waves

a poem

a wave knocks me down

i struggle to stand

to breathe

to regain my footing

but before i can

another one comes for me

out of air

unaware

which way is up

which is down

lungs screaming

eyes burning

let me out i say

i don’t want to go this way

the water suddenly recedes

as if the waves can hear my cries

they calm

from a storm

that almost never was

and yet i am scared

i am torn apart

i have suffered the consequences

while the clear blue

moves on in peace

forgetting there was a ever

a war with me

while i still ache to find air
