Walk in the Woods

Leaves crunching beneath my feet

Memories scattered across my mind

I’ve been blue today

Remembering the things that used to matter to me

I’ve been green today,

Walking through the woods

And appreciating the change in the seasons

I’m a little orange and red

Even as I pick up a beautiful burgundy leaf from the pile of leaves on the ground

What message is nature trying to share with me today?

What emotions do I need to shake off?

What plans do I have for my future?

Why can I not take the time to just enjoy nature?

The woods are beautiful,

Peaceful, quiet, and serene.

The sun’s shining down through the trees.

The clouds are light, fluffy, and bright white

I feel drained today,

But being out in the wilderness feels energetic and empowering

I stop.

I take the moment to take a deep breath

And turn my eyes up towards the sky

I want to embrace the time that I have

I want to embrace the peace of the moment

There’s no gentle breeze,

But the air is chill and cool

Today I’m going to feel

I’m going to feel the burning in my calves

I’ve walked a lot out in the woods

I’ll feel the chill as it fills my lungs

It burns deep within,

But it doesn’t hurt.

It feels refreshing

Almost invigorating

~

My mind is all over the place

I’m trying to live in the moment

I’m trying to let nature heal all the hurt lingering on my heart and mind

I’m trying to remember what it’s like to me

But most of all I’m trying

Reaching out,

I let my fingers run over a skinny tree

There’s little pops of mushrooms that look like shelves coming off the tree

I wonder if little fairies perch off those mushrooms

I wonder if the fantasy world could exist with a touch of reality

I look around

Taking in the world around me

There are a lot of browns and greys

Lots of neutral tones resting out in the wilderness

It’s fall,

There’s touches of green, grey, red, orange, and yellows

~

What would the woods say about me if I could use the leaves like pages in a journal?

What would the ink be?

Maybe the water in the creek

Writing out a story

Decluttering the words cramping up the space in my mind

Then I feel it,

The warmth of a tear trickling down from my eye

The memories are like a fog, thick and hard to see through

For a moment

My eyes are blurry

I feel the heat flare to life in my cheeks

~

Part of me wants to run and hide

Hide away from the feelings swelling in my heart
