Unsheathed

Excerpt from "Simply Poetic"

Covered in nothing but a blanket of doubt and vulnerability, I bared my soul to you

And I wondered what it would take for your entire sun to set on me, just me.

I was a wildflower whose petals you picked one by one in an attempt to construct change that would fit your image of perfection

You picked until there was nothing left but a stem, a hollow husk, a corpse of the beauty that once was

And you cried out in vain as you began to realize that you lost everything you once loved

The shadows of perfection once idolized in your hearts mind came crashing down around you

In your futile attempt to put love back together again as love fled from you

Lying in the bed you created of velvet petals, the idea of perfection strewn around around you, dying

The sun setting on your happiness and a love you learn you will come to know only one time

You are filled with a desolate sadness, aching for the time when you could have unsheathed your soul for her, just her.
