Trust the Broken

For When They Let You In

Unless you’ve WALKED in their shoes,

Been there at their worst and best,

Been there to anticipate their every action and phrase,

Talked to them to know their dreams, their fears, their interests,

And not base it off of facial expression and tone of voice,

You will start to see layers coming off,

You will start to see that everyone changes,

But you will start to see the person for who they really are,

If they start to let you in.

Because no matter how much you’ve been around this person,

You can never truly know what they’re thinking,

But they will at least show you what they are feeling.

And for them to let their guards down around you,

Take it as it is.

Take it for what they give to you,

Because what matters is not only how much they give you,

But the fact that they give you something,

And a reason for you to love them.

You don’t need to know their past,

If it is too much for words.

But just know that when they open up,

It’s more beautiful than words,

And it should be enough to invest in,

Despite what anyone says,

No matter what happens.

Because that person you will love,

Is the person you fell in love with,

Regardless of their past,

Whether friendship or past friendship.

Because it is not easy to let anyone in,

Let alone give trust,

From a broken past,

Covered with a mask.

So trust when they let you in.
