True Love Never Dies

Ode to Eternity

Somewhere deep within a hollow

Where nighttime doesn’t sleep,

And Goblin dreams of weary young ones

Freely crawl and creep,

The winter wind that whips your clothes

Makes visible your breath.

A chill reverberates the night

Its essence cold as death,

As barren trees spread icy fingers

Outstretched to the sky,

And all the dreams of hopeful men

Retire here to die.

Eerie voice of siren lore

Lends shivers to the spine,

As it travels through the dark,

Shimmering through the pines.

There a dark steed treads the night

The whole world all his own,

As he leaps with phantom feet

Over parapets of stone.

Artist Gwent Card - Grey Rider

The weary rider bears aloft

A lonely lantern light,

Its solemn glow too small a hope

To penetrate the night.

Somewhere in this mystic hollow,

Its images dark and deep;

Where fairy wings, and happy things

Are far to scared to sleep…

You’ll find a light that’s bursting forth

Unnatural to this place,

And in that light I will keep tight,

The memory of your face.

For in the bleakest darkest shadow

Dwelling in my heart

There lives a love too deep and true

To surrender to the dark.

When riders, dark, entrap the heart

With beacons cold and bleak,

And hopeful men remember when

They once were not so weak…

I’ll recall my only blessing

Miracles in your eyes,

And I’ll have hope among the hopeless.

True love never dies!

I really enjoyed this poem, Veronica. The rhyming scheme doesn't feel forced and you manage to tell a great story in a few words.
