Holding On To Love Too Long

Holding on to hope too long

for a love that danced its last song

Years spent clenching a memory

Like a rabbits foot or a lucky penny

Will years be wasted wishing on bright stars

And extinguish like fireflies in the morning

still in their jars

Stuck in time as the clock spins its wheels

Hoping to never look back at a movie’s empty reels

What was missed during the hearts slumber

Will hindsight unveil a countless number

Should holding onto this vivid dream

One day be worth all the loss in between

Does the dance end when the music slows

Doesn’t love have ebbs and flows

Has the music stopped yet I hear it still

Or simply on pause and to resume one day at will

Should the parting be of sweet sorrow

Or will the music play again today or perhaps tomorrow
