This Is How I Love You

it all begins with a tease of the senses

the building of layers in moments

that permeate thought

like a dream before I rise

as night wings its way into morning

watching you sleep in the sweetest kitten purrs

I stroke your sweet face and know that today

is more than a quick squeezing of minutes

hours punctuated in moments of affection

that look like nothing on the surface

but land deeply beneath the skin

always on my mind, longing

today, I wear lace in a smile

and trace outlines in your favorite perfume

a gentle stroke of a hand at the small of your back

as we pass in the hallway

sparkling eyes and a pout caught in gentle teeth

pull your attention in silent breath

I twirl my hair around my finger

and you run your thumb across my jaw

we pass too closely in the kitchen

where taste melts into scents and the heated air

lands on wanting skin

where great conversation plays laughter

that sounds like crystal songs

soft jazz that taints the air sultry

but doesn't overwhelm the sound of

your quickened breath

as your lips gently tease mine open

as a kiss leads into anticipation

and anticipation kicks up desire in pools

awaiting the tender attention of warm skin

each minute interaction a lesson in catharsis and synergy

love was never meant to be just a word

rather an experience where full-body marries

the energy of a being both within and without

an explosion of connections profound enough to swallow pain

it all begins with a tease of the senses

the building of layers in memories

that permeate thought artfully sculpting time

into tomorrow's reminiscence
