There’s Only One Way Out

All it takes is a lifetime

The circle of life is a curious thing,

And it’s one we are all guaranteed,

There’s a start and a definitive finish line,

It’s written in humanity’s famous creed.

🎉

But that’s all that we can bank on,

The rest is one day at a time,

Your decisions, your wins, your mistakes, your lessons,

Yours will be different from mine.

🎉

Life is short, brutal, beautiful and essential,

A period made up of thousands of minutes in a day,

Many a sunrise, hundreds of sunsets,

A rainbow on the horizon, a quintessential array.

🎉

A birthing of love, a celebration of hope,

A pleasure urn full of wishes and dreams,

The heart racing destiny fated as one,

A silver lining cloudiness of lunar beams.

🎉

The other side is the darkness of negativity,

A lungful of screams, eyes that cry a torrid stream,

A heart that breaks as a painful lesson scars,

The feelings aching of destroyed and broken dreams.

🎉

A cascading shower of ever revolving losses,

Morphing into a blossom of flowering gifts,

A door or two closing against better wishes,

As a lucky draw shatters and shifts.

🎉

Against the wisdom of the nighttime hours,

Shadows that follow the lightening dawn,

Starlight glistens upon our future,

As another new life is magically born.

🎉

Lives lived within the start and ending,

A vessel full of endless possibilities,

Roam the highways given so freely,

And enjoy the essence of life’s responsibilities.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Let's focus on the dash between date of birth & date of death & make the most/best of it we can.

Excellent poetry, of someone who experienced the wisdom of living . To start the poem with the Circle of life, says it all. Infinity of life for sure . 🥰Welcome back

  • I like how this didn't sugar coat life. You showed both how beautiful and ugly life can be. I loved it!
