There’s no pain under hot water.

The ache of the day is pulled from the pores,

The cold in your bones soothed and warmed.

There’s no pain under hot water.

The worry over money and bills recoils into the inner most depths of the psyche,

Peace absorbed with each steamy breath.

There’s no pain under hot water.

No stress, no sorrow, no strain,

Melted by the glow of the flickering candle-flame,

Retreating into the dancing shadows.

There’s no pain under hot water.

No ifs, or buts, or whats,

No questions or comparisons,

No anxiety or self-consciousness.

There’s no pain under hot water.

No stammering or stuttering over words,

No guessing and second-guessing motives,

No overthinking or over-planning.

There’s no pain under hot water.

No noise to convince or coerce,

No distractions to take your focus,

No heartbreak, memories, or desire.

There’s no pain under hot water.

There’s only… peace.

This poem is day 2 in my 30 days of poetry challenge. I’m sure you can tell I am far from a poet, but I’m hoping to experiment, learn, grow, and have fun with poetry over the next 30 days.
