The Turtle
A Poem About Resilience, Patience, Strength and Forbearance
The turtle. Not the creature you'd think of straightaway when composing a cover for Zoo Magazine, its picturesque shell notwithstanding. However, it can teach us a few this about impulse control, tolerance, patience, resilence, and the importance of peace of mind in adversity.
Turtle
It does not flinch
When crossing the paths fraught
With birch, branches, sticks, stones, and thorns
Steady
Turtle
Shell does not break
When laden with the weight
Of its needs, wants, concerns, desires,
Forbear
Turtle
It can withstand
The intemperance of the
Sand, wind, heat, and stormy seas
Patient
Turtle
Its stumpy lets
Covered with tough skin that
Protects it from the elements
Stoic
Turtle
Soundless, tranquil
Its mind focused on the
Treacherous paths that lay ahead
At peace.
