The Travel Bug

I love to travel

I love everything about travelling,

From the organising, packing, travelling, returning home,

It’s all such a blessing to me,

The itch that gets under my skin to roam.

***

I’ve so many precious memories,

Of the places to which I’ve been,

On each such splendid occasion,

I enjoyed the trip and treasure the scene.

***

I’ve travelled to the desert,

Strolled on pristine beaches,

Rode the torrid of the rapids in a raft,

Where I managed to collect a number of leeches.

***

I’ve driven the lonely roads of my country,

Slept under the blackened starry sky,

Soaked in the hot springs with a good book,

Camped near a gully that was bone dry.

***

I’ve hunted and fished for my dinner out in the wilderness,

Fried it over a hot camp fire,

I’ve slept near crocodile infested waters,

And been stranded on a deserted gravel road, with a flat tyre.

***

I’ve surrounded myself in luxury,

On a trip of a lifetime for my boys’ 21st birthdays,

Lived the high life in a penthouse,

To see how the rich live, just for a few days.

***

I’ve met a new love,

Ensuing a furiously passionate affair,

What goes there stays there,

As I leave in a mist of despair.

***

I’ve ridden a camel on a pure white beach,

Befriended the natives of the land,

Learned so much about my country,

That I’ll continue to explore in the next adventure that I plan.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

The only adventures that I go on is through books, lol! I admire you being able to travel despite being an introvert. Travelling stresses me out so much, lol!
