The things we loved
about each other
were subtle
like the dimple
that showed
on your right cheek
only when we
laughed about something
foolish, or hair, damp and
smelling of jasmine
instead of yesterdays,
silky cheekbones
before age and oil made
them stone washed,
or the gleam
of unburied vulnerability
on the surface
of your iris
as you fell asleep.
The things we loved
about each other
made the
troublesome remainders
like disagreeing
over money or careers
feel worthwhile.
And some days,
it was simply
the ordinary ways
we coexisted
that quelled our irritation
in the moments
we weren't quite
feeling ourselves.
The things we loved
about each other
were a fragment
of the whole picture —
a snapshot,
blink, and it’s gone.
Often, we must remember
the things we hold dear
so they don’t get lost
in the doubt or chaos
of unmet expectations
and learning
to grow kindly
alongside each other.

I love the honest look at relationship. It is so easy to forget, but oh so sweet when we remember.
Very sweet
