The Show of the Nighthawks
A Poem by KJ Aartila
The Show of the Nighthawks
Against the wispy-clouded sky,
a choreographed chaos of circles
was performed before my eyes.
An air-show as it should be,
***
mechanics never to be feared,
I watched, as one became two,
then several more appeared
to join the frenzied sky-dance
***
winged in the path to mark the season,
carried on the winds.
There seems no rhyme or reason,
just following the feast.
***
Nostalgia unexpected, infrequently they come
to grace us nature’s wonders.
I felt like I could touch them,
as they swooped above my head.
***
They only stayed a moment,
but the show will last a lifetime
etched in memory.

Thank you for reading! This was a fun experience my husband and I enjoyed the other evening while sitting our deck.

Beautiful descriptions <3 Thank you for writing this!
Beautiful! Seagulls did that above me the other day. One second, there was one bird, the next hundreds were darting from every corner.
Oh wow it must have been so wonderful to have actually experienced that! So glad you wrote this poem about it!
KJ - How bitchin' - But, I have to say we live on a hillside and had to enclose our 'deck' as the gorgeous Hawks constantly swooped us gathering prey; just keeping our respectful distance. - You're always terrific in a your "LadyLike" fashion. JB-Bud
A couple of months ago one of our neighbors' trees was filled with buzzards. When they would all take off & soar together over their house..., what a sight. Not so pretty when just sitting, but in the air, so majestic!
Beautiful nature show!!! Love this, KJ!!!❤️❤️💕
A lovely nature poem, love the feel of flight
