The Real Enemy

And Greatest Fear

I open my eyes for a moment

And stand to face my rival

With a deep breath, I take it in

And she flashes a dangerous smile

-

Her eyes are clouded by fury

Consumed by hatred and rage

Her laugh is dark and deadly

Foretelling a war will be waged

-

I feel my hope drain away

Like a flame that dies in the rain

Her empty eyes lock onto mine

A flash of hidden pain

-

And there beside my enemy

A figure of shadow starts to appear

It darkens and clears to a nameless shape

And morphs into my greatest fear

-

Together the two approach

My enemy takes me off guard

Seizing the moment, she stabs my chest

With words that pierce my heart

-

Then the person that I fear most

Looms over me like a wave

Then she falls and crashes down

I'm swept away, drowning, afraid

-

Together they are wolves

They howl a chilling sound

Jaws clashing, claws slashing

I feel myself stepping down

-

This is a battle I cannot win

Against my greatest enemy and fear

I close my eyes for a moment

And slowly walk away from the mirror
