Beautiful Lies

A poem

The Truth pretends to be

Roses and sun

Flaunting false smiles and joy

As she collects dreamers

Tied tight, round her fingers,

Breathing their trust, ever coy

-

But as soon as their dreams

Turn to dust

Their eyes open up and they wake

To a world run by greed

Filled with every misdeed

The Truth reveals all that she breaks

-

Now the Lie is misjudged

As a terrible sin

Twisted, dark and malign

When he breaks fragile trust,

Coats a promise with rust,

He’s masked by their hidden design.

-

But more often than not

He will find

The victims of Truth’s broken dreams

He will look down and sigh

Pity clouding his eyes

And sew them back by their seams.

-

Now the Lie is the one

Giving hope to these souls

Who are seeking out beauty and light

He becomes pure and kind

From the Truth he will blind

The ones who deserve a fair fight.

-

For if people saw life

As it were

Corrupted by death and despair,

What point would there be

To pretend to be free

From the life that they all are ensnared?

-

That is why they must

Close their eyes tight

And believe in the things that can’t be

For from these things spring freedom

And purpose and reason

To find beauty in life that brings peace.
