The Perfect Summer Day

My idea of bliss

The perfect blissful day,

Waking on a grey Sunday morning,

With the rain tapping on the window,

And no hope of seeing the sun dawning.

**

It’s summer and a perfect 30 degrees,

Humidity is 99 percent,

I’m cuddled under the blankets,

Feeling perfectly content.

**

I’m watching as the sky cries its tears,

Drowning out our worries and concerns,

Cleansing the world and our emotions,

Until happiness once more returns.

**

My idea of perfection,

A perfect summer day,

The world has been reborn once more,

And everything is okay.

**

I love a good summer rain,

Match it with a lazy Sunday and it’s pure bliss,

I’ll smile wide the whole day through,

As I lay here and reminisce.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

    Beautiful poem!

    Sounds like a lovely day.

  • Summer rain is exactlyyyyyyy how I would describe the weather in Malaysia. That's how it is all year round. Your poem was so lovely!

  • Sounds like bliss to me. We're still in Saturday & winter, but it is quite muddy outside as the temperature has reached nearly 40 degrees Fahrenheit the past few days, melting the wonderful snows with which we have been recently blessed.
