In lush green forests of Kenya's highland,
The drums of resistance sound,
The Mau Mau movement rises,
Defiant hearts with courage found.
Oppression and brutality rampant,
European settlers reign supreme,
But the Kenyan people refuse to bow,
And fight for their land with a dream.
The Mau Mau warriors in the fields,
Bear arms with steadfast grit,
Bound in a brotherhood of freedom,
Their cause, a sacred writ.
With matchet and spear they train,
Proudly holding their heads up high,
Defying a mighty colonizer,
Unafraid to live or to die.
The colonial powers called them terror,
But these warriors of freedom,
Sought only for self-determination,
Their lands their sacred kingdom.
The Mau Mau movement will be remembered,
As those who fought for their right,
Who gave their all for liberty,
And won after a difficult fight.
And so we honor their sacrifice,
And the legacy they have left,
For the Mau Mau warriors will forever be,
The heroes of Kenya, their debt.
