The Loss of You

My Friend

The Balloon release we had for Shay for his 14th birthday.

Let me start by saying I wrote this in high school, during 9th grade. One of my closest friends while in middle school attempted to take his life. He did however fail, which then left him as a vegetable. I was planning to go see him in the hospital but he passed away three days before I had planned to go. This was the first poem I wrote and the hardest.

The loss of you,

Was one of the hardest times.

Time just blew,

Just like wind chimes.

Born in the spring,

Passed in the winter.

Fresh like a diamond ring,

Then gone like the midwinter.

For when you died,

You were so young.

Our eyes never dried,

To breathe it hurt our lungs.

No one could help but cry,

For the rest of our lives.

We just couldn't say goodbye,

It truly blew our minds.

Your smile was so bright,

You were so full of life.

We were so full of fright,

Like by a falling knife.

With every word you said,

To every breath you had.

I just couldn't believe you were dead,

It was just so sad.

Taken from us like that,

A way never imagined.

Like a drop of a hat,

So sudden and unimagined.

Though we did not want it whatsoever,

You were a piece of art.

Still loved forever,

In our hearts.

In loving memory of
