I did not witness your coming

If the room lit up as you swept by

Seduced by the words on the page before me

Dry sapling self stirred only

By the ringing sound of sacrilege

Of a book falling to the floor

And as my tongue moved

To lash you with a thousand cuts

Your eyes met mine

And the hourglass sands stopped falling

As I sank into the depths of your brown eyes

A bed of the softest peat

The sunlight gilded your hair

Creating a halo of sin

Crowning your fallen angel's face

A glow of innocence on the pearl of your skin

Glinting from your wedding band

Whilst eyes spoke of hidden lusts

Touched only in the dark of night under silken sheets

To part in the morning

With secrets written under our skin

To pass as strangers on the street

From one night of sweet sorrow

A little death of virtue

Yours from first sight until dawn

Fading like the mist

To be but a tale years hence

With regret for what may have been

Had I taken the chance

Of love stolen from someone else's story.
