A Tale of Love and Loss

A Tale of Love and Loss

She held the letter in her hand

A single sheet of paper, nothing grand

But on it were the words she feared

The words that confirmed what she'd always feared

Her love was gone, forever lost

And with him, all her hopes were tossed

She read the words once, then twice

Tears streamed down her face like melting ice

She remembered the day he left

How he promised he'd come back, bereft

Of any doubts, he held her close

Said he'd always love her, never chose

To be without her, no matter the cost

But now he was gone, her heart was lost

She clung to the letter, as if it were him

Hoping it would bring him back again

But deep down, she knew the truth

That the letter was his last proof

That he was gone, forevermore

Leaving her heartbroken and sore

She folded the letter, held it tight

Wishing she could turn back time, make it right.

But fate had other plans in store.

Leaving her alone, forevermore.
