A Dying Culture

Hammer throw (Masters (folks over 40 years of age) weight for women is 12 pounds for light and 16 pounds for heavy Las Vegas, Nevada

The first time was so exciting

The anticipation of a decade barely contained

Arriving at the field with no expectations

Only wishing to experience the battle

Weight over bar for Masters women is 21 pounds Costa Mesa, California

Competitors abound with verve

Chatty, reserved, experienced, and neophytes

Nine events to test strength, stamina, and fortitude

Women and men testing themselves in competition

World Masters Highland Games in Tucson Arizona 2019

Stones to emulate a weaponless era

Weights sail distances to find a long forgotten enemy

Hammers fly, sheafs are flung

Cabers, once carried in war, turn and crash

Sheaf Toss (not usually done in Scotland Highland Games) Ventura, California

Heavy and light, old and young

A day spent in camaraderie and opposition

Celebrating Hieland tradition

Healing what history tried to erase

Tobermory Scotland Caber was 22 feet long and about 100 lbs

The last time will come, age taking its toll

Each clash recorded for eternity

Celebrants will honor those before

And those who will continue the legacy

Drumnadrochit Scotland Kilt Race
