Once upon a time, you were my everything
my day, my night, my dreams, the air in my lungs, the warmth in my bed
I told myself fairytales of us
wrote you poems for your lunchbox, browsed rings to ask your hand in marriage
buried my reality in pretty blue eyes forgetting some stories have more than one antagonist
for years, you had consumed me
a dragon outside my castle disguised as a prince
plucking friends, saviors, would-be lovers off the path, swallowing them whole
a resentful guard holding me prisoner in the tower
until happily ever after, you burned it all down

Oh, a very heartfelt one. The pain was inside the poem. Nice work!!!
I adore this!! The mix of reality and fantasy is perfect.
Fantastic poem ! I like your poem.
I love the play on fantasy being a trap, something to escape from rather than an escape itself. Amazingly done!
