A pandemic puppy tale

One gray and rainy afternoon

you mysteriously showed up.

Panicked and alone,

A small and shaggy pup.

We didn't know your name

or why someone left you here,

But we dried you off and fed you

And got you past your fear.

Instantly you stole our hearts,

But we worried what we'd do...

How is a house filled with cats

Supposed to welcome you?

With pretty eyes and perky ears

and a pandemic shutting us in,

We decided we'd try fostering you

To see if integration could begin.

We tried hard to train you,

and lord knows you were trying.

We hoped that we could work it out,

so this wouldn't end with crying.

It was well over a year ago

that Rose came through our door.

She made yourself right at home,

And we couldn't love her more.

Even the cats have accepted

that she's part of the family now.

Sure, it took them six months or more,

But it finally happened somehow.

Today it's hard to imagine

our life before this Doxie,

her licking tongue, wagging tail

and an over abundance of moxie.
