The Circle Of Friendship

The welcoming bond

There’s not a season, a celebration, a loss or a heartbreak,

That you don’t turn to your circle of friends for comfort and cheer,

Those awesome somebodies that are there for you, always,

In good times and bad, they are the ones you hold dear.

***

They’ll stand by your side in support of your vows,

Watching you grow from singleness to duality,

They hold you tight when you fear the fall,

Of a loves one’s loss of mortality.

***

They laugh at your mistakes, teasing time and time again,

Never allowing you to forget the times of immaturity and silliness,

They reminisce often on your drunken dates,

And guard your back in times of battle and cunning wiliness.

***

They’ll pick you up when you are down,

Lifting you in times of common need,

Administrating emotional stability and compassion,

Whenever your heart is broken, they’ll stem the bleed.

***

Special occasions are all the better,

As they share the graciousness of growing older,

Watching as you grow to be the best version of you,

With their guidance, their support and their comforting shoulder.

***

The love of friendship is one that allows individuality,

Acceptance is a powerful key,

The rides of your ups, your downs and the flow of life,

The sharing of your true authenticity.

***

The joy of returning their love and support,

As you offer back the friendship favour,

Just a phone call away at any given time,

Is a lifeline we hold dearly and a comfort we savour.

***

Life without a circle of friends,

Is a difficult life and a mournful waste,

A lonely existence,

That leaves an unpleasant aftertaste.

***

The circle of friendship is a blessing,

A gift to all within it’s beautiful enclosure,

A powerful tethering of love, support, strength and happiness,

To all lucky enough to experience the bonding from friendship’s exposure.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
