The Chains That Bind You

A Poem

The chains that bind you,

What are they?

They keep you from going

Where you may.

Though you desire to flee

They bid you to stay.

The chains that bind you,

How you want them gone!

You ask how long

Before you may run.

Free to do what you wanted to do

Under the sun.

But the chains that bound you,

They taught you.

Though they held you

They made you strong

They've guided your heart

Where it truly belongs.

For the chains that bound you,

They freed you!

They led you right

Where you should be.

You thought you were being held

When you were being set free!
