The Burden of Exclusion

Standing Alone in a World of Groups

It's a feeling that lingers, a weight on the soul,

When you're standing alone, in a group that's whole.

You try to fit in, but it never quite works,

Your presence feels awkward, your efforts like quirks.

Their laughter and chatter, once music to your ears,

Now feels like a jumble, with no meaning or cheers.

You long to belong, to be a part of the scene,

But the distance between you and them, remains unseen.

Their stories and jokes, once amusing and bright,

Now feel like a burden, a constant fight.

You start to withdraw, to retreat in your mind,

Feeling left out, left behind.

But know that you're not alone, in this feeling of exclusion,

Many others have felt it, it's not just an illusion.

Be kind to yourself, embrace who you are,

Your uniqueness is a gift, it sets you apart.

And though it may be tough, to stand on your own,

Know that you're strong, and you'll find your own throne

The imagery you employ, especially the image of standing alone while others form tight circles, is potent and affecting. It takes courage and vulnerability to write about feeling excluded, and your words will resonate deeply within my soul. About three years ago, I came to the conclusion that it is acceptable to be alone as long as it is healthy. Does that makes sense?
