The Better Part?

"Martha busied herself with domesticity Whilst Mary sat at his feet and listened."

[I]

The teacher came to a certain village

And he entered the house of two sisters

Martha busied herself with domesticity

Whilst Mary sat at his feet and listened.

[II]

In the first flush of youth, he met a girl

She did teach the torches to burn bright

She was his sun in the day and his moon at night

Asherah in all her perfection was within her

Queen of Heaven, Star of the Sea.

So, he bent down on one knee and asked her

And she said yes.

And so, they married, made a home together

Built a family

He never looked elsewhere because

He had been gifted perfection itself.

He never searched because

He had already found

Why travel even unto China

When the treasure waits in your own home?

And so, he died

Ignorant of the world

Ignorant of himself

Yet content.

In the first flush of youth, he met a girl

She did teach the torches to burn bright

She was his sun in the day and his moon at night

Asherah in all her perfection was within her

Queen of Heaven, Star of the Sea.

So, he bent down on one knee and asked her

And she said no.

And so, he wandered the world

He roamed and he questioned

Like Majnun he railed in the desert and wept

Like Santiago he sought out the Pyramids and dug

Even unto China did he search

question

love

Until his dying day he sought

Because perfection was always elsewhere

The answer just beyond his grasp

Truth further down the road.

And so, he died

Knowing the world

Knowing himself

Yet content?

[III]

I sit here at the bar of eternity

Nursing my cup

And observe my father and I

And think

Despite it all

Mary has the better part.
