The Beauty of Shea

A Poem about the Healing Power of Ghana's Northernmost Treasure

Deep in the northernmost reached of Ghana,

Where the sun beats down with fierce might,

There grows a tree, so ancient and wise,

Its fruit, a rare treasure and precious sight.

The Shea tree, with bark rough and scarred,

Stands tall and proud in the scorching heat,

Its leaves rustling gently in the breeze,

A symphony of nature's sweet beat.

The fruit it bears, a symbol of life,

A treasure to be sought, so rare and grand,

The nuts, a healing balm for melanated skin,

A rare find, a treasure in the land.

The process of making Shea butter,

Is one steeped in tradition and pride,

The women gather the nuts with care,

And pound them by hand, side by side.

The nuts are roasted, and ground to paste,

Mixed with water, and left to ferment,

Then the butter is extracted with care,

A process that takes time and attention.

The resulting Shea butter, so smooth and pure,

A golden hue, glows on melanated skin,

Makes it soft, moisturized and nourished,

A true rare healing, from within.

This Shea butter, a treasure so rare,

Found only in the northernmost parts,

A symbol of Ghana's rich heritage,

And a reminder of the beauty in its heart.

The Shea tree stands tall and proud

In the scorching sun and the pouring rain

A reminder of the resilience of nature

And the healing power it contains

As the sun sets over the Shea trees,

The land is bathed in a golden glow,

A reminder of the warmth and light,

That Shea butter brings to melanated skin.

For in this land of scorching heat,

Where the Shea tree grows so tall and strong,

There lies a rare and precious remedy,

That has been used for ages long.

So when you use this Shea butter,

On your skin, let it remind you,

Of the land from which it came,

And the beauty and healing it imbues.
