The Bathtub

So it's 1am

And you're in your bathtub

You took a class once where you learned not to write bathtub stories

But this isn't really about the tub

It's just where you are

At 1am

You just finished telling your friends all about him

How the way he looks at you now breaks your heart

They say you deserve better

And you're hopeful

You think you're starting to believe them

People ask why you cut your hair

Why it's so dark now

You usually say something like

"It was time for a change"

But honestly?

You wanted to feel like anyone but yourself.

In case you forgot

You're still in the tub

And you're thinking about the water

It swirls and wraps around you

Closer to you than any blanket or man could ever get

Interesting how we disregard things that try their best to keep us warm

Drain the excess

What we believe we don't need

Maybe you're right

You're excess

Unneeded

Unwanted

Non profound

And washed up

Or maybe that's not you

You are

Excellent

Needed

Wanted

Profound

And clean

The bath water is starting to get cold
