social commentary
There's a rich history of poetry serving as social commentary, intended to inspire calls to action.
Fool’s Gold
Welcome to Fool’s Gold… This is a short alternate rhyme scheme piece. It uses the old prospector as a vehicle to illustrate that only experience, knowledge, inspiration and the sweat of your brow produce results… results that are truly worth something and are capable of effecting change and reflection in both creator and reader at a deeper level.

Minimum Output
The blood d r i p s F I l l s their coffers. Another of society's horrors. Treacherous their trajectory o b l i q u e They lock us in {positions of no grandeur} boxes to line their pockets. Oppose and face Consequences Less than. Greater than. Minimum output. Or just do whatever Everyone else does.

Faux Gold
Don’t chase shooting stars All that glitters is not gold Faux gold shimmers, too Author’s Note: Today marks my eighteenth day on the fifty-day song/lyric-based senryū challenge. Today’s poem is inspired by “All Star” by Smash Mouth, though it takes a much different path than their song did. You can listen to “All Star” below. I hope you enjoy both my poem and the song.
