THE DEVIL HAS YOUR FEET

Upon a cold and starry night,
Where every twinkle chilled the air,
A lonely soul reached for the gates,
Believing peace was waiting there.

His fingers stretched towards Heaven,
He begged for hands to pull him through,
But something darker held his feet,
And whispered, “I have come for you.”

You will not go where peace awaits,
Your peaceful days have reached their end,
You made a bargain long ago,
And now I’ve come to claim my friend.

Come where chaos never sleeps,
Where Father Time lays down his pipe,
Where tears become the seas you swim,
And sorrow hangs forever ripe.

Beneath those seas lie broken ships,
Their skeletons upon the bed,
And countless souls who wailed like you,
Now drift amongst the silent dead.

There is no Earth. There is no Heaven,
No loving heart to hear you cry,
Only fire that never weakens,
And tears that never, ever dry.

You did your wrongs upon the Earth,
And thought one day you’d make amends,
But where I’m taking you tonight,
Your punishment will never end.

The frightened soul looked up once more,
One final glimpse of Heaven’s light,
But darkness tightened round his feet,
And dragged him further from its sight.

You should have heard the kinder words,
That told you which way you should go,
But goodness never seemed enough,
So you came searching down below.

You signed your name. You made the deal.
You chose the path beneath your feet,
And now both Heaven and the Earth,
Are places you will never meet.

Then came a laugh beneath the stars,
As darkness swallowed every cry,

I am the Devil. I have you now.
Heaven and Earth have said goodbye.
