Childhood’s simplest dreams,
roll by upon a mind-screen.
The simpler days of Brian’s childhood
were spent fishing in the creek near the wood.
With his dog Lawrence by his side,
he’d cast his fishing lure with pride
and dream of the day when he’d win a prize
for catching a fish of very great size.
Under lavender skies by a old gnarly oak.
Minnows plop-ploped, an old bullfrog croaked;
the flowing waters ever crisp and clean,
sang him to sleep and provided sweet dreams.
When he’d come in with his catch,
she’d tell him they were the biggest yet;
well-cleaned and cooked up with French fries;
dessert was grandma’s homemade apple pie.
