spiderwebs, lacy

memories

reminders of who

has been

like knickers

in the basket

spiderwebs, glistening

hail

tell the tale

they tell

like coffee stains

on tabletops

the scent of vanilla,

waxy residue

candlewick

burn out

emotional

black out

Thanks for reading!

I love this. So impactful. 'like coffee stains on tabletops the scent of vanilla, waxy residue candlewick burn out emotional black out I just love that part. Also, those words being things people leave behind is such a sad but cool way of looking at it! That makes me wanna write a poem for it now!

I read the author’s note and it clicked- great idea. I like how they’re all small and simple things, but signs or remains of something that’s already been. “like coffee stains on tabletops”. Nicely done Paul!

  • And the tales they do tell, both real & imagined.

  • Tell the tale they tell like coffee stains. I really loved that! A veryyyyy Paulitical poem! 🍩🥐

This is a gossamer delight, Paul. It improves and gathers deeper meaning with repetitive reads. Although unstated, I see the thin trail of smoke rising from the snuffed wick at the poem's conclusion. The fragility of both memory and emotion lovingly evoked. Really fine work!
