Spider Webs And Football Nets
A Freeform Poem Inspired By A Football Goal

Introduction

I don't normally publish two poems consecutively on Vocal, but I looked out the window this morning and saw a netted football goal, and thought about how cobwebs and nets are effectively used for the same purpose, to trap things.
I was originally going to do a short free form poem, but then thought of how many situations use nets, and thought I would add a little difficulty and turn it into a villanelle. That does mean that Vocal will not choose it as a Top Story as they do not recognise villanelle as a poetic form, but I know that my audience will love this and they are the ones that matter to me.
This is the first story inspired by this holiday in Alnwick.
The music is "Flowers & Football Tops" by Glasvegas which is a great song vaguely related to the subject.
