Someday she said. She watched the planes passing overhead. Some people carried home, others carried to a new place, and still others on an adventure.
Someday she said. As she walked passed the little house with a wraparound porch all decorated for Halloween.
Someday she said. As she smiled politely at the very pregnant woman shopping for baby clothes.
Someday she said. Listening to her coworkers talk about their vacation in Hawaii and how relaxed they felt.
Someday she said. Scrolling on her phone at all the events happening for couples, for kids, for families.
Someday she said. Wandering aimlessly around the endless aisles of furniture and organization at IKEA.
Someday she said. Watching all the cars drive into the mountains while she passed onward toward the office.
Someday she said. Listening to her friends croon with passion to 90’s alternative at karaoke night.
Someday she said. Looking at the empty storefronts for lease as she passes through downtown.
Someday she said. Searching through photos of dogs on pet finder.
Someday she said. As she looked at his handsome face sleeping peacefully beside her. Dreaming of the day they would share that house with the wraparound porch. They’d go on vacation somewhere the mountains maybe or the beach, or maybe just point to a map and jump on a plane. Maybe they’d have a child, or maybe a dog… she smiled wishing for both. He’d cheer her on as she attempts to sing. They’d help each other grow and dream.
Softly she kisses his shoulder, as she whispers, “someday” into the darkness.
