Soap:

An Ode to all things clean

Millions of bubbles huddle together,

to wash the sins of a dreadful day

Everlasting suds stretch on forever,

leaving things fresh along the way

Please thank the one who imagined soap,

a purifying remedy with lofty ambitions

Elementary, yet worthy of trope,

scours away the soiled intentions

*

Scrub all you want, you’ll never be clean,

when you hold onto guilt

from the conscious you stream

Love love love, the way that you run,

from the problems that lurk,

purging is only begun

Take one GIANT leap, for that bar of hope,

lavender scented

makes it easy to cope

Maybe you'll find a vat full of suds

to soak your addled mind-

to dissolve the crippled crud-

*

In the end, your triumph awaits,

squeaky clean, forgiven mistakes

You’ve rid your mouth of nasty words,

things you don’t mean should never be heard

Exfoliate the stigma, destroy the grime

enjoy the feel of your revitalized rhyme

Until another day and another fragrant brand,

keep scrubbing, my friend until cleanliness is grand.

“Scrub all you want, you’ll never be clean, when you hold onto guilt from the conscious you stream” So true! This had a powerful message, but I also enjoyed what a sensory experience it was, reading words like bubbles, suds, and lavender (my absolute favorite scent, flavor, and color).

I never thought I'd ever enjoy a poem about soap- but this was actually so good! Very nice work 😊

I sometimes wish all those mouthwash with soap had worked into adulthood. LOL! This is a great ode!

  • Just hear me out. Why don't we eat soap? Lol, I'm nuts! Your poem was so deep. I especially loved this line: things you don’t mean should never be heard
