She Had It All

She just didn’t know it yet

She battled with the fatigue and exhaustion of the every day fight,

Struggled with the constant tears and hopelessness of it all,

Facing brick wall after brick wall, tired of the endless battle,

Bashing her head to gain any traction and yet she’d constantly fall.

💪

She’d cry her loudest tears in the dark of the night,

Shedding her broken soul to the offers of complexity,

Fighting, struggling, living on the very edge,

Wondering constantly at her very low perplexity.

💪

Until…..the day she’ll never forget, the day she rose from the ashes,

When she realised she was made of resilience and fortitude,

A day, an hour actually, when she finally broke and crumbled,

She, at first, believed it to be her end, thinking she was totally screwed.

💪

But when the bottom is hit as hard as she hit it,

She soon learned there was only one direction left to her, an up rising,

She could lay there in the ditch of the brokenness of society…….or,

She could learn her strength has been there all this time, surprising.

💪

Her eyes now open, her heart overflowing with crippling pain,

She knew she had to take it one day at a time, one foot forward first,

Every minute of succession a winning beat to be rewarded,

A practice run, a learning curve, to be rehearsed and rehearsed.

💪

Every obstacle she triumphed against, a chalk mark in her corner,

A realisation of the strength she had buried deeply inside,

A magnitude of power her’s for the taking, dig deeply brave woman,

It’s yours, you are the strength from which you’ve always tried to hide.

💪

Courageously empowering, the ultimate lesson of the beautiful warrior woman she is,

Resilience a tool in her arsenal that will give her every strength she’ll ever need,

The endeavour of awakening within her precious inner armour,

The winner, the warrior princess that now refuses to forever bleed.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
