Shadowlands

A poem about the side of you you don’t accept

Do you like to do

What you aren’t supposed to?

Do you hate yourself after you have

Assuming you get away with it?

Yes?

Until the next time

Where you feel that old familiar buzz

A magnetism towards the poor choice

And you regress once more

To an earlier version of yourself

It’s not that you really want to do what’s Ill advised

It’s confusing in fact

Because you do….

You do want to

Then you do

And wish the hell you hadn’t

But it’s your shadow running you

The parts of you you don’t face

Won’t face

But it’s still you

Bring your shadow into the light

Acknowledge it

It’s the first step to avoid

Being run by it

Every one has a shadow side

Don’t think you are better than anyone else

Because you think you can say

I’d never do that

Are you sure?

Haven’t you at least thought about it?

Shine your light on your shadow

Say Hello

But don’t pretend it’s not there

Or it’ll cause you confusion and pain.

And you’ll be back in the Shadowlands

Making one bad choice after another
