Running

A two stanza poem about the emotions I felt upon losing my mom and what I still feel.

I started running

The moment you passed,

Away from the future,

Back to the past.

To catch your last breath,

Replace it with mine.

To grab ahold of your hand

And pull you back from the great divide.

I started running

The day that you died,

Away from the heartache,

To clutch at what you left behind.

Pressing those belongings to my aching heart,

Blurring the lines of where you ended and I start.

This wasn't how life was supposed to be—

Running from everything, especially the future me.
