Rose tint memories

July 1st, pride is gone

The clinking of glasses rings in my ear

from the night before,

as the sun is rising

on a new day

The first day of July

Pride has been

washed away

From my skin

Time to hide

Time to only feel

shame

I call my mother now

The rings scream as I already

predicted this outcome

I want to cry, but I can’t

Dad would say boys don’t cry

So I suck it up

Try to be as boy

as I can be

Even though they don’t see me

“Rose I think you’re just confused.”

I’d be confused too

If you had to live

The way I do

I knew she wouldn’t answer

But still I try

Still I hope

She’ll pick up her phone

And tell me it’s okay

It was always okay
