Ropes

They can tie us together. They can bind us in bondage

They can pull you up. They can hang you with a noose

They can strangle and choke. They can also tie the sails.

Withstanding the storm over the seas.

Its constriction, scraping along the skin.

Its coarseness, forming thick calluses.

Such a visceral sense capable

of good and of great harm.

It can be used to pack your items for a journey.

It can be used to restrain your legs from movement.

The dichotomy of it all, which do you choose?

Duality, knotted and twisted in cords

Intertwined, the good and the bad.

I implore you choose the good,

And although the bad is a part.

We can learn to rise over it.

To be the plant that grows from the soil.

I say we cut the ropes that bind us,

and connect the ropes that intertwine us.

Use the ropes to lift each other up.
