Dear low-income communities,
I know that life is tough,
You work hard every day,
And still never have enough.
But now the winds of change are blowing,
And gentrification's here,
With rising rents and new developments,
That only the rich can afford to bear.
The coffee shops and artisanal stores,
May seem like signs of growth,
But they come at a cost to those,
Who have already lost so much.
Your homes are being torn down,
Your neighborhoods are being rebranded,
And though the newcomers may be friendly,
They don't understand the struggle you've landed.
The effects of gentrification are far-reaching,
They cause displacement, stress, and strife,
But we must not lose sight of what's important,
The value of each and every life.
So let's stand together, low-income communities,
And fight for what we know is right,
We'll raise our voices and share our stories,
Until our neighborhoods shine with their own unique light.
Sincerely,
A fellow citizen.
