So afraid of rejection
I check in with my reflection
Staring at a stranger
Fearing for danger
Never seeing myself
Have you seen yourself?
Cracks and lines in the mirror
Each day becoming fairer
An illness of people
Trying to be someone's double
Secret in a reflection
Only to look for connection
Just seeing me
Is where I wish I could be
But beauty like you
Forces me to be too
Wanting to be my own
Never would know I was this alone
A change not for you
Forcing me to be true
Reflections are what we make
Take a second or we’ll break
Breathe for me
Or breathe for you
This infections of what we see
Should bow before those who are free

Perfect Little Pirate
The rough, sodden rope bit into her fingers as she swung over the roiling water far below. Reaching out with the toe of her boot, she managed to catch hold of the rain-soaked railing of the ship- and promptly slipped. Throwing herself forward, she landed hard on the deck, slamming her elbows against the wood planks. The sharp yelp of pain quickly bubbled into a laugh, and she rolled onto her back, laughing up at the gray sky as a torrent of rain washed away the soot covering her skin.
