Rain Upon the Rose

Companion to Sorrow in the Stone/The Rose and the Stone

By Joel Gray IIIPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

There she stands

Beauty among desolation

A rose among the thorns

But more

A sprout that took hold and grew

Endured harsh wind and drought

A struggle to claim her place

And finally a vibrant bloom

Bright and cherished

But alas, it cannot last

The storm of time conquers all

Same as the stones, just so for the flowers

Sweet rain to fall upon her

Nourishing, bracing

Soon to be despised

A rain of blows upon a time-worn blossom

In time, the petals beaten away

New shoots to take her place

Soon to know her pain

Rain upon the rose
